Mining management plans and reports

Exploration, extractive mineral and mining operations in the Northern Territory (NT) must be authorised by the NT Government under the Mining Management Act 2001.

Consistent with the Act and conditions of authorisation, operators must submit mining management plans (MMPs) and reports to the department.

The department assesses MMPs for 3 categories of mining activity:

• exploration
• extractive mineral
• mining operations.

MMPs for exploration projects have been available on the department’s website since 2016, with MMPs for major mines the next to be made publicly available.

Extractive mineral operations MMPs will be made public sometime in the future in consultation with the industry.
