Tender advertised for historic mine safety work at Tennant Creek

A public tender is currently being advertised for small mining environmental and public safety works to take place in Tennant Creek.

The current tender will cover 17 historical mine workings that have safety issues located nearby Tennant Creek and provide opportunities for local jobs.

Works covered in this tender will improve the safety of 39 open mine workings including shafts, open stopes and adits using a combination of backfilling, mesh covers, chain link fences and signage.

These sites have been prioritised due to their close proximity to town and evidence of people going to these locations. They will make these areas safer for residents and visitors to Tennant Creek.

The Northern Territory Government (NTG) is working towards developing Tennant Creek as a mining services centre for the Territory.

These latest works will help provide economic development opportunities and jobs for local and Indigenous businesses in through involvement in mine remediation activities in the Tennant Creek region.

Similar safety works were completed in the Eldorado Area in November 2016 by a local Tennant Creek contractor which included employment of local Indigenous people. Details on the tender can be found on the NTG Tenders and Quotations website
