Scholarship winner announced
The Northern Territory Government has provided a pathway for a young Darwin man to enter the resources industry through the Earth Science/Mining/Petroleum Scholarship.
The scholarship program has been running since 2005, and the 2018 recipient is Jason O’Meara from Jingili in Darwin.
Mr O’Meara's scholarship has provided him the opportunity to take up an Earth Science degree at the University of Melbourne. It will provide opportunities for him to develop skills and on-the-job knowledge through placements with mining companies or the Department of Primary Industry and Resources during the holiday breaks.
This scholarship provides a great opportunity to enter into the industry.
The scholarship provides $12,000 a year for three years to a student from the Northern Territory who undertakes a course of study in earth science, mining or petroleum engineering, or metallurgy.
It is open to 18-25-year olds. Recipients also receive mentoring, career guidance and development support.
