Animal welfare grants now opened

Applications are now open for the 2018-19 Animal Welfare Fund grant program.

The grants help not-for-profit organisations undertake projects to improve animal welfare, as it provides $200,000 a year for animal welfare projects, helps organisations improve animal wellbeing and raise community awareness in regard to our responsibilities when it comes to animals.

The annual program had been improved to streamline the application process for those applying for a small amount of money. There are now two tiers of funding – small grants up to $10,000 and large grants up to $50,000.

The introduction of partnership grants has also been included this year, which means previously ineligible groups such as local councils and unincorporated bodies can now partner with not-for-profit organisations. This will support self-sustaining initiatives.

In the 2017-18 grant year 11 organisations received funding for projects that ranged from the refurbishment and upgrade of a rehabilitation facility for injured turtles to a cat de-sexing program for concession card holders. Applications close Friday, 8 June, 2018.
