Sam Nowland awarded Young Achiever 2019

One of our own has taken out the Young Achiever Award at last night’s Northern Territory Seafood Industry Awards.

Samantha Nowland, an Aquaculture Research Scientist at the Darwin Aquaculture Centre was recognised in the company of industry, government and hospitality representatives.

An employee of the Department of Primary Industry and Resources (DPIR) since 2013, Sam’s work in oyster aquaculture earned her the accolade.

The success of DPIR’s trial in commercial farming of the Blacklip Rock Oyster can be largely attributed to Sam’s research, work ethic and professionalism which helped her build collaborative partnerships with government, industry and Traditional Owners at Warrawi and Pirlangimpi.

The Territory’s tropical oyster project was initiated to develop a sustainable industry in coastal Aboriginal communities. The Blacklip Rock Oyster is a new aquaculture species with significant commercial potential.

From everyone at DPIR, we congratulate you, Sam!
