Put local seafood on the table this Christmas

Territorians are encouraged to think local when planning the menu this Christmas.

The Northern Territory is renowned for its pristine seas, sustainably managed fisheries and delicious, fresh seafood.

At this time of year when many come together to share meals, it’s a great opportunity to put one of the Territory’s greatest assets on your plate.

“Buying Territory seafood means you are guaranteed to have guests raving about the quality of your meal and importantly, it also goes towards supporting the work of other Territorians,” said Executive Director Fisheries, Ian Curnow.

“From the people catching seafood to those processing and selling it and the suppliers of boats and fishing gear, there are many jobs supported by the seafood industry.”

NT Fisheries are valued at around $120M (GVP) and there are about 440 direct jobs in the catching and processing sectors. Flow-on business activity is estimated to generate a further 500 jobs, with a total Territory-wide employment contribution estimated to be 941 full-time equivalent jobs.

Put locals first this festive season and serve up some fresh Territory seafood.
