Fishing survey ramps up

Surveys have recommenced on boat ramps across the Northern Territory as part of the Territory-wide recreational fishing survey.

The comprehensive survey will determine the number of people who fish, where and when they go fishing, the species of fish that they target, and how much time and money they invest in fishing.

Survey interviewers will be working at selected boat ramps around the Northern Territory and follows telephone and diary surveys which started in August 2018. The first round of boat ramp surveys began in October 2018.

Recreational fishing is a key part of the Territory lifestyle and the survey forms part of the NT Government’s $50 million commitment over five years to enhance the Territory’s recreational fishing experiences.

At the completion of the survey period, the data will be carefully analysed before a final report is produced in 2020.
