Pets and COVID-19

Published

COVID-19 has not been reported in domestic animals or wildlife in Australia.

There is no evidence that the virus can be transmitted from animals to people, or from animals to other animals, or that animals can become sick from COVID-19.

Pet owners are encouraged to adopt good hygiene and biosecurity practices when handling their animals. These include:

  • washing your hands before and after handling
  • cleaning and disinfecting animal equipment regularly
  • keeping vaccines and boosters up to date
  • controlling worms, fleas, ticks, insects and other pests.

Should your pet become sick, please isolate them from other animals and contact your local veterinarian for advice.

For COVID-19 updates go to the secureNT website.
