Another strong year in mineral exploration and production

Published

The mineral production and exploration expenditure figures for 2019/20 have been released demonstrating another strong year for the Territory mining sector.

The total value of mineral production was $4.4 billion, the third highest level ever recorded in the Territory.

Statistics on mineral exploration expenditure have also been released, showing that $123 million was spent in the mineral exploration sector in 2019/20. This is the second highest figure since the last mining boom in 2012, and 56 percent higher than 2016/17 results.

Given the impact COVID-19 had on borders and FIFO workers this year, these are extremely positive and promising results for the Territory mining sector and the Territory economy.

The mining and mineral exploration industries are key economic drivers in the NT and will be crucial for the Territory’s economic recovery coming out of COVID-19.
