Our unique Northern Territory and its resources

In the Northern Territory, onshore gas is trapped in very deep shale rock which is much deeper than coal seam gas (CSG) found in the eastern states.  In the Territory, deep shale gas is an average of 2.5km underground.  Drinking water aquifers are between 300-500m underground.  A robust regulatory system ensures that onshore oil and gas can be safely regulated to protect water and the environment.
