Range of testing

Darwin water chemistry laboratory provides testing services for drinking water, sewage and trade waste, and fresh and marine water.

The laboratory's scope of testing is in the field of physical and inorganic chemical analysis including nutrients and biochemical oxygen demand in waste water.

Work is performed on a fee-for-service basis and is available to government, corporate and private clients.

Collecting and submitting water samples

Sample bottles can be collected from the laboratory. Alternatively clients may collect water samples into a clean plastic bottle that has a capacity of least one litre.

Follow these water sampling directions:

  • when collecting a sample, allow the water source to run for a few minutes, rinse the container out once then fill it to overflowing, leaving no air gap
  • refrigerate a sample if you need to store it. Forward the sample to the laboratory within 48 hours if possible. Transport a sample in a rigid, insulated container or a well-insulated carton
  • complete a water laboratory sample submission form including all contact and payment details and hand in the completed form with your water sample
